There are various theories on personality types, some more founded than others. Astrology assumes that there is a certain synchronicity between the movement and the positions of the planets in the cosmos, and the events occurring on Earth; and that human beings are influenced by this synchronicity.

Whether you believe in astrology is not really important. Used as a tool for self awareness, a description of your personality always makes you reflect about who you are, and if you devotedly pursue the great Greek advice "Know Thyself", it can lead you to a profound understanding of your life on Earth.

Your sun sign is the sign of the zodiac occupied by the sun on the date of your birth. It influences your conscious behavior. Although it is often the most important single planetary influence, it is only one aspect of a person's personality. Only a complete look at your birth-chart (called horoscope) can ascertain the unique combination of the factors affecting your life, making you aware of your weaknesses, and showing you how to develop your strengths.

Synastry is the comparison of two people's charts in order to assess compatibility of their personalities and lifestyles. In this section we will explore each month's astrological sign, and the dynamics of attraction and compatibility this sign has with the other signs of the zodiac.

Aries and its compatible signs

Aries the first sign of the zodiac, is of the Fire element. A typical Arian native will connect well with the other fire signs and with air signs. With Earth signs there will be a lot of challenges, and with Water signs – mixed possibilities.

Aries and Taurus– a Fire sign and an Earth sign together means conflict!!! As with other Earth-Fire combinations, this one is difficult but can be lively and dynamic at times. Taurus is somehow too practical and calculated for Aries who tends to jump into action as soon as the opportunity arises. But at the same time Taurus keeps the Ram grounded and stops him from doing impulsive mistakes. They will both enjoy a luxurious hotel and a gourmet dinner although soon after returning home they’ll start quarreling again. In the long run the famous Arian enterprise will be blocked by Taurian stubbornness, so for this partnership to succeed Taurus will have to yield a lot.

Aries and Gemini – Fire and Air create good compatibility. Gemini has plenty of ideas which Aries will be only too happy to pursue, and Gemini also understands the Ram’s constant need for stimulation. They both like changes, only Gemini processes the changes in his mind while Aries wants to see concrete results. The need for stimulation also means they may be looking aside too for other romantic opportunities… A very good friendship can arise between these two.  

Aries with Cancer– Fire and water combinations vary in compatibility depending on the signs. Both these signs are cardinal which means they are in pursuit of their goals and they also have in common initiative to pursue their goals. However Aries needs action for the sake of action while Cancer’s idea of action is interpreted into financial and emotional security. Cancer can be too emotional and sensitive, even moody at times, for which Aries has no patience. And Aries who needs action, does not really like Cancer’s tendency to stay at home all the time. Cancer’s constant need for emotional security may get on the Ram’s nerves.

Aries and Leo – These two Fire signs will create a lot of sparks between them. A lively, fun, and passionate relationship, that can also be tender and submissive. They are both interested in adventure and success. Power struggles are possible, but they should be able to make up easily. They should be aware of possible competitiveness so for this relationship to succeed Aries will need to yield, as the Lion is the king.

Aries and Virgo– A Fire and Earth combination. The perfectionist Virgo will irritate the Ram with its criticizing attitude, especially since Aries is so messy, disorganized and impulsive. For Aries, Virgo can be boring, with its preoccupation with unnecessary details. So although sex can be initially rewarding, down the road those two are just not meant for each other.

Aries and Libra– this Fire and Air combination often creates big attraction, as these two are opposing signs on the zodiac wheel. While there can be a wonderful chemistry here, there are challenges because Libra is essentially reserved, and needs time alone, and Aries is such an extravert and wants to do things together. The problem here really is that Libra has a delicate personality while Aries can be rough.  If Aries can be less egocentric and if Libra participates more in the fun that Aries prepares for them – this could be an excellent relationship, with a chance for a strong bond.

Aries and Scorpio – This is probably the most challenging of the Fire and Water combinations. These two are forceful characters and a conflict of power could easily result. While Aries is motivated by a need for action, Scorpio’s main motivation is emotional intensity. Aries is very open with his feelings and Scorpio very secretive. This will not ease communication between the two. Scorpio’s inner control competes here with the Ram’s control of action. There may be plenty of sexual attraction but it will probably not last long and will wear both partners…

Aries and Sagittarius - Two fire signs that can form a lasting and satisfying relationship, providing a lot of action and adventure for each other, as well as change and novelty. They’ll make a great couple to go on trips (perhaps white water rafting, or parachuting), try new and exciting things, and just have limitless fun (sex included). They share lots of laughs, physical activity, and basically a very similar attitude to life.

Aries and Capricorn- An Earth and Fire combination is always difficult. Both Aries and Capricorn are cardinal signs and therefore doers and leaders who also want to control everything. What a competition! This may be the base of the initial attraction between these two. But it can’t live very long and will escalate into a conflict of leadership unless one of them accepts the other as the leading partner.  The Goat is very cautious while the Ram is adventurous; the Goat calculates the risk and takes it if needed while the Ram is after another surge of adrenalin; Aries is impatient and impulsive while Capricorn systematically plans his way to success. It will be hard for the serious and responsible Capricorn to tolerate the Ram’s childish spring into action.

Aries and Aquarius - A good combination between the Air and Fire elements. Although Aries is self-centered and Aquarius is a philanthropist caring about human well being, the Water Carrier is able to handle the Ram’s ego with humour. Because Aries choices are selfish and Aquarius choices are idealistic – here’s a great chance for Aries to learn to do things for others, and a chance for Aquarius to do things for themselves. Socially they are a great couple. Emotionally this may not be easy. Aries is warm and likes closeness, and Aquarius is cold and prefers friendship to emotional intimacy.

Aries and Pisces - Another Water and Fire combination. There may be physical attraction here: the Ram’s decisiveness appeals to the Fish, and the Piscean caring and gentle nature attracts the Ram. But are these two signs compatible? Aries is the first sign on the zodiac wheel and is considered to be the baby of the zodiac, which often lends him traits of selfishness and self centeredness. Pisces on the other hand is the last sign of the zodiac and regarded as the wise Elder, self sacrificing in its nature. The rambunctious behaviour may not appeal to Pisces as a permanent arrangement for their future life together.

Aries with another Aries: Naturally you will feel at home with someone who shares your interests and drive and need for action. However be careful - two babies in the same family will undoubtedly create competition for attention from whoever they’re with. If they really love each other they will have to learn how to compromise.
